BLACKBETTY

SYNOPSIS

DRAMATIC SERIES

In the gruesome aftermath of a mysterious outbreak in Eastern Europe, a handful of quarantined survivors navigate loss and a sprawling conspiracy. The unknown virus has one simple result. If you fall asleep, you die. The only way to stay alive is to find and take various drugs that keep you awake. There are countless side effects, but the most fascinating and unexpected is that people still dream.

Emotionally raw and never predictable, BLACKBETTY is a miniature epic, where everyone and everything suddenly matters, a set of inter-connected stories marked by their redemptive beauty and frank, gritty reality.

REVIEWS

"The third episode...almost pays homage to the great Soviet director Andrei Tarkovsky, with a setting very in line with his masterpiece, Stalker. The story follows two teenage boys who come close to the edge of ‘the zone’, in order to take some soil and water samples. The grim outlook, which overwhelms the second episode, remains here as well, but also accompanied by a small dose of optimism. As a whole, the miniseries does not attempt to tell a complex story with plentiful action, and intriguing plot twists. Rather than engaging in such filmmaking, Marco North crafts a wonderful and meaningful mood piece, which could perhaps be more accurately described as an experience rather than a plot-centric story. The beautiful cinematography, combined with the inspired selection of score, creates a meditative atmosphere in which the audience is allowed to develop their emotions alongside the given frame."

"It is very difficult to find ideas that can compete with high budget screenplays, but sometimes you can find some very interesting products done with a lower cost and with a small crew. “Blackbetty” is one of these series. What we really found remarkable is the overall atmosphere, starting from the title sequence up to the rolling credits: Marco North created a fascinating world, a “place between the truth and the lie” where living characters thrive through their stories in their struggle to survive an hostile city."
